E55 blows black smoke, and sometimes white smoke
I have a 06 E55 it has done just on 100,000 miles.
it uses about a quart every 3000miles or so.
it has more boost, tune, inj , split cooler , plus other stuff.
Sometimes when i start it cold it blows a bit of white smoke ( oil ), other times when cold it can smell mega rich ( fuel )
it is a daily, so 99% of the time it is driven nicely.
However sometimes a chevy pulls up
when i give it everything i blow him, but he also it covered in black smoke. my wide band is rich 10.5 or so, but in my opinion too much smoke for the a/f ratio.
if I boot it again the smoke goes away, it is like it blows out the carbon that has built up somewhere ?
I did a search and someone said IAT may be high and the ecu is dumping fuel in. I am yet to check this, the traction light tells me the blower is working.
As far as valve stem seals, it doesn't blow white smoke after backing off, or after the first usual acceleration.
It doesn't have a catch can, perhaps it needs one ?
Open to any ideas please.
What happens when it overboosts ? heard that my pulley combo is close to the limit. is stock t/body, so thought that would keep the top end under control.

HI, thanks for the reply. I think it is just black soot in the exhaust.
99.5% of the time it is driven like a baby, and soots up the pipes, then when i have some fun, it blows it all out at once !!

A white puff of smoke on cold startup is usually a sign of worn valve stem seals, especially on higher mileage engines.
