Oil Leak - Oil pan gaskets and rear main at the same time?
Hello,
My 2006 E55 is leaving an oil puddle from the rear of the engine... local independent mechanic says rear main seal and both the top and the bottom oil pan gaskets need replaced. Seems weird that both would go at the same time. Volume of oil lost is more than "weeping" as it will leave a 4 inch diameter puddle after driving a few miles.
Have been looking at posts and don't see much leak reports on the oil pan gaskets...
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks!
TB

if its leaking that much than it should be easy to pin point -- wash it down with some de-greaser and a hose .. put the car on blocks and start it up -- look around for leaks

You Need to check your oil level. I have a small leak and mine reads 7.6 at the moment. So, this begs the question for those "in the know", how much should the system read? I know I put in 8.5 at oil changes and the filter is probably 1/2 quart and the lines are probably close. So what should it read? The system read from the bottom of the pan if I'm correct 7.2=7.5 or higher.. Input Greatly appreciated.. OP Not trying to hijack btw..
