What do you guys think?
New member here. Tried to buy a C32 AMG back in the day, couldn't make the deal work. Ended up buying an E36 M3 instead, and loved it. Fell in love with BMW and bought a 335 as well. Now (5 years later) I've moved on and purchased a 2002 pristine 996 turbo, and a Fiesta ST as a daily. My wife drives the 335 now, and we are looking into trading it for a e55. I have started talking to a local dealer here about one they have. Seems to be very clean. Carfax looks really good. Serviced very regularly at a Mercedes dealership for most of its life. 71k miles, 19.5k.

I am not sure if these threads are allowed, but what do you guys think of the car and the deal? What do you think would be a fair price for this car?

Are you able to see the car, are you near Kent, WA? The value of these older cars is completely dependent upon cosmetic and mechanical condition. You can not trust the dealer to disclose faults. You need an independent evaluation of mechanical systems. If the car has very low compression on one cylinder then this car is worth about half the asking price, and even a PPI (pre purchase inspection) would not disclose this unless you specify that you want it checked and I believe that this level of inspection would be at least several hundred dollars. Even cosmetics are difficult to check unless you have a paint specialist along. So it is a crap shoot what it is worth. You need to see it and drive it hopefully with a knowledgeable friend along and then follow your gut.
Often these are traded in when something needs to be done. Try to determine what that is; in my case new engine and trans mounts, fried high beam wiring, and a vacuum leak at the intake. I considered myself lucky that was all (so far). I have a good Indy and $3500 later my car drives like new and I really enjoy it. So what would this car be worth to you if you had to put $4000 into it?
AMGs are fairly rare but they are for sale always, some good ones on this site by members too. Try to find one you can put your hands on and evaluate, if you like it get a PPI. I almost made a terrible mistake buying a car and having it shipped based on other peoples evaluations, I listened to my gut and went to see it. It was not as represented, how do you fix that five hundred miles from a dealership that has your money?
Nobody can tell you what that car is worth in my opinion. Too many unknowns. But the asking price seems reasonable to me if the car is in very good, needs nothing condition.

Used E55's are all about maintenance and fixing the issues that pop up as soon as they do.
Mileage has less to do with it. I would buy one with 130k on the clock and solid records over one that had 30k and sketchy records.
At the age these cars are there is going to be issues with the rubber and bushings, regardless of mileage.
These cars simply like to be driven as hard as you can

Compare yours to this ad local to me here in NC. He's asking $16,500 for an 04 w/ a tune, 96k miles. He's had it for sale over a month and has dropped the price.
