Parking brake won't stay on

Hey guys, so I bought my car knowing that the parking brake handle was missing. I got a new handle today, but when I put it on there was very little tension on the cable, and the parking brake pedal won't stay applied on. Any idea with what's going on? I think the 2a/2b thing might be broken, but I'm not sure. http://mercedesml.info/ParkingBrake.pdf

Here is the pedal, if it helps.

Turns out I had this happen to me. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...wont-lock.html

Reseated it, and it works great now! Getting that metal ball in the slot on the handle was a PITA though.

Working on mine in the car right now and it looks just like your picture with the metal retainer out of place. Having trouble moving it over though. How did you get out of the incorrect spot? Seems like not enough space between that and the metal part that holds the cable going to the parking brake.

Great pics in that post! Thanks.

You have to depress the parking brake, and get at it with needle nose pliers. It would help to have a 3rd hand, but it's possible with 2.

That's exactly what I ended up doing yesterday. Yes, a third hand would have been great! Works like a champ now! Thanks again!
