09 E63 Radio/Nav upgrade?/Backup Cameras
I'm considering upgrading the radio/nav unit in my 2009 E63 AMG/ I was thinking about getting a later year model and switching. The 09 navigation is pretty bad and not too intuitive or easy to use. Anybody done this or have any advice? I'd also like to have backup cameras. Anybody have any advice regarding this? Thanks, Reg Mudd

if you upgrade to NTG 2.5 you'll need to replace pretty much your whole sound system besides the speakers. the AGW and Navi unit will need to be removed. the AGW will need to be replaced with the amp from the NTG 2.5 vehicle. you will also need a few adapter harnesses.
IMO, not worth it (over 1k in parts). i personally am using a tablet linked to bluetooth Viseeo adapter. the tablet is magnetically mounted to the CD Slot.

2009 should have NTG 2.5 already which is the best of W211 stock head units. if you have an SD Card slot in the front, then you already have it. As mentioned you can enable camera with SDS. You can also enable linguatronic which is actually pretty decent considering it is 7+ year old technology. I did the retrofit to my E55 and like the seamless integration but it is quite a lot of work and expense.
Consider looking at the Android version which has a lot more flexibility and newer functions (touch screen) and you can install lot's of Android apps. It is not quite as seamless and has a couple of quirks (for example when you change menu items on the instrument cluster, sometimes the music will change track too ... this could be a setup issue though). Also, it takes a while for the system to boot and to hear music/radio etc.... Anyway, this is a lot easier to install (still significant for those with Harmon Kardon) but not bad at all. I have this on my E320 CDI and it is pretty decent overall.
If I had to pick one now, I would probably pick the Android version based on cost and flexibility. Old Android versions were not up to snuff but the recent ones are not bad at all. Back when I did my E55 though, I would have picked NTG 2.5 for sure.
