Real leather Seats?

I was looking at a E320 CDI the other day and one seat was torn, it was obvious that the material was not leather.

Are the AMG vehicles real leather?
When did MB start using fake materials on seats, what models?

Thanks

Don't know exactly when they starting using the faux leather, but it's called MB-tech

Its a pretty good imitation on the newer models I've seen.

All AMG models are leather typically, don't know about the newer entry "AMG" models though.

I've got the MB-Tech "fleather" seats on my 1985 300D. Not a crack or blemish in 'em. I doubt leather would last that long without issues...

Car free at the moment
It's called MB-Tex.

Has existed in one form or another since the mid 1970s. Typically "regular" cars and practical cars (i.e. diesels) have MB-Tex as standard. AMGs have napa leather as standard. In higher line cars such as E550 it is probably market dependent - they will have leather in the U.S., but perhaps not in other parts of the world.

My 2007 C230 had the MB-Tex and my AMG has real leather. I prefer the MB-Tex for sure. It wears better and it has a slightly more "grippy" feel to it. Keeps you from sliding around in the seat. It's the only car I've ever had where I like the fake stuff more than the real stuff!
