h-pipe to x-pipe caveat

Guys,

This is probably more applicable for the newer guys but who knows. Hopefully this is helpful.

For any of you considering replacing the h-pipe with an x-pipe there appears to be a pre-requisite:

****Secondary Cat Delete is a requirement*****

Here is how I got "here"

I am at the exhaust shop getting a bung installed for the o2 sensor to start logging.

While I was here I figured I would switch out the h-pipe to x-pipe to help reduce the choppiness of the c63 mufflers. This topic (h-pipe versus x-pipe sound differences and performance impact) has been discussed extensively on this site so please do a search for opinions if this is of interest...

My car has primary cat delete and I don't want all the cats removed. Too many stories on the smell..

My sense is most of the guys with an x-pipe have primary high flow race cats or 100% cat delete (?).

Hopefully this helps someone out...

did you have to cut and reweld the tips out of the c63 muffler?

I suppose that is possible but most guys just have the muffler and exhaust tips re-installed. Some guys claim to have paid as little as a couple hundred $ for this. Took the shop I had the work done at 3.5 hours and cost me $500.

Link below when I was looking for advice on the topic.

They are LOUD and I didn't like it right away. Well, things change...

These end up being a very expensive endeavor when you add up the cost for the mufflers ($700ish) shipping ($250-$300) and install ($200-$500) So, for $1,300-$1,500 you are 70% of the way an Eisenmann set-up that sounds absolutely glorious...
