Visit workshop (Red battery)

Ok so about about a month ago my car would randomly say esp malfunction visit workshop and active headlights malfunction. It would fix itself and stop that soon after. For 2 weeks now I have been hearing a loud whining sound when starting the car. The sound would be loud when starting but after a while it would shut off and I would forget about it. Today this red light came on with the battery symbol on the center console and it said visit workshop. I figured from doing a little bit of searching on this forum that its probably my aux battery going bad or my alternator going bad. How do I figure out which one it is? Where can I buy a decent price aux battery or alternator depending on whichever it is. Thanks in advance

Even the cheapest OBD2 code reader from any auto parts store (less than $20) will give you the code to know what's going on. Buy one, get the code, check the code online, and there's your answer! AutoZone and Advance Auto might even check your code for free.
