Rear main seal is very common on these cars.

About to buy e55 amg
Okay so... are LT headers so much better than Shorty/mids that it justifies doubling the price? Also.. are EC LT headers up to par with MBH as far as quality goes?

also, what size SC pulley/TB should i go for?

Update:

10/14 Oil sensor + oil change
10/20 Right side valve cover is leaking so will fix
10/28 windows get tinted
11/3 wavetrack LSD gets installed

Probably next mods include:
Maybe replacing fuel pumps, filter/regulator , relay, and o-rings (precautionary)
wheels(sometime in late november/early december)
exhaust( headers, x pipe, and some sort of axle back)

got to pay off my infiniti and sell it before i start going hard on this car :P

Thanks!

I have been doing a lot of reading on the limited slip for the E55 and was looking at the wavetrack, and decided to go with the quaife as it seems like a stronger unit and it uses gears instead of clutches that wear out. I am going to get the quaife and Renntech toe links before I do any engine mods. If you can't get traction to the rear than it's a waste as the rear tires will spin at will in stock formation. Just my .02

Here's the link I read that sold me on the quaife.

Which is why i am going with the LSD as my first mod basically. Are the toe links necessary?

They look similar to cal-track bars for older cars. My friend has them on his E55 and said they really helped him with traction along with the LSD. I don't have them yet so I have no experience with them.

I have nothing bad to say about either unit. I have run a wavetrac for a few years in my SLK32 (there was no quaife option) ... and I run a quaife in my SL55 (it is the early 210 axle, so for that car there was no wavetrac option).
Both have been pushed hard (the slk is running 5 extra Psi, etc and the SL just dyno'd at 521 RWP) and seem to be holding up fine.

I replied to your post because it seemed like you were suggesting the wavetrac is a clutch type LSD which is not the case. Both are gear type.

Both are great products in my experience ...

Cheers,
Chris

Yes I was under the impression that it was a clutch style. I stand corrected. Thanks for the information!

the toe links seem to become necessary when you increase the tire's traction (through the use of wider and/or stickier tires).

excessive dynamic rear toe change will be different for different cars.

On the Sl55, it seems like stepping up to 305s in the rear starts to make the dynamic toe a noticeable issue. Stickier tires and reduced offsets will likely make this happen to a greater extent.

I won't pretend to know as much about the E55, you will want to see what the fast E55 guys are doing.

hope that helps,
Chris

What coilovers are you looking at? I am contemplating the same once any costly part of my airmatic takes a dump.

Take E63 exhaust... fits P&P and Sound really nasty from 4.000rpm upwards!
I have one under my E55 with stock headers and stock cats.

I was told the quality isn't that different from kw2 to BC coils so I am going with BC because they are 1300 cheaper.

I have weighed the difference between e63 and c63 exhausts and just like the C better. Just need to know where to get it

You can find out with half the miles for only another couple grand more, which is what you should have done..
Based on completed ebay auctions, ads on Autotrader and Cars.com, and edmunds.com TMV value, I tend to disagree with you.
