Keyless Go Handle

Hey guys, when your keyless go handles failed, did all functions fail or partially? like did your lock button fail but the unlock still worked?

Reason I ask is because my used replacement handle doesn't work, nor does the infrared function work. The rear passenger was replaced with a used unit also, that one works fine.

Thinking I may have to buy a new handle for the drivers side front.

There's a DIY somewhere that shows what it looks like once they're taken apart. Basically water gets into the switches and they end up corroding. I had 3 replaced by the MB dealer and one of them failed after less than a year and it was replaced under MB's 12 month/12k warranty. I'm not surprised a used one would be bad. The infrared function is a different sensor that's not part of the handle. There's another DIY out there which shows someone fixing the infrared sensor.

My buttons worked okay, it just wouldn't unlock the door as I approached the car and pulled on the handle.

The buttons on your FOB? I was just referring to the buttons/switches on the door handle. One is behind the door handle which unlocks and the other is in front to lock. Just make sure you have fresh batteries in your FOB and make sure it's not near a phone or blocked. If you hold it right outside the door and press the buttons on the handle and it doesn't work at all, then it's probably the handle.

I think he means the door handle buttons, and I believe it's possible for the functions to fail partially like OP described. I put 100% silicon on the buttons when I do the tires, I hope it will keep the rubber fresh and prevent leakage and failure.

Me, I was referring to the button on the handle. When my handle(s) went bad, on mine, the outside square button on the handle would work to lock the door; the button on the remote would work to lock/unlock the door. The problem I had was that the handle(s) would not recognize the keyless function (fob) if, say, the key was in my pocket and I pulled the handle to open the locked door. At that point, I would have to get the fob and push the unlock button to unlock the door.

Not a tragedy to have to use a fob to unlock a door, like I have to on my daily Avalanche. However, it was a function that is available that didn't work as intended and was considered broken. The dealer fixed both handles under ELW.

If the question was for the OP, sorry for jumping in.

Did you try taking the fob out of your pocket and then trying the unlock function? Mine also does that, but when it's sitting behind the phone, the radio signal never gets there. You know it's bad when the fob is in the clear right outside the door and you squeeze the button behind the handle and it doesn't work.

Yep. Did that too to make sure I covered all bases before I claimed it. I could hold the fob in the hand that was pulling the door handle and no go. My amg tech confirmed.

I would test the handle itself. If you have a multimeter, you can check the resistance across the 3 pin connector when the buttons are pressed. When you press the lock button, you should see ~475 Ohms, if you pull the handle, you should see 300 Ohms across the pins. If you don't see any changes, the handle is most likely bad.

Below is my repair job. It's not beautiful but after reinstalling, you can't tell and they work very consistently. Not bad for a few pennies worth of parts.
