Esp malfunction visit workshop
I got treated to that message yesterday, but the notice went away next time I started the car. I nursed it home as I felt something amiss and when I got home the RR hub and rotor were stinkin hot. On stands, I ruled out dragging p-brake and proved it was caliper drag that heated it up but the wheel rolled free. At idle, the rears roll free and esp engages with any amount of throttle and then disengages at idle.. at least during my test.In any case it is going into the shop to get plugged in and figured out. My question for you guy is, if I have a bad wheel sensor and do not wanna cook a rotor, am I in the clear driving it with the esp switched off? Or do I have to put it in dyno mode? Or call a goldern flatbed? Right now I'm thinkin esp off and check for hot hubs.

Sounds like a wheel speed sensor but it could also be the optical ring on the axle. If you can take the sensor out and clean the end of it off that might help temporarily. If not then you should be ok in dyno mode if you have a short distance to travel. If more than 10-20 miles flatbed it.

Lots of things can cause it, wheel speed sensor is one. Steering angle sensor in the steering wheel is another, yaw sensor, etc. If you get it scanned, it will give you a more descriptive error message.

Got the car scanned and ordered up a steering angle sensor. It's done an intermittent fail several hundred times and the last one lasted llong enough to **** off the esp. Looks like a nice easy fix.
