2006 E55 air suspension issues
HELP!
Ok, so I come home from overseas anxiously anticipating to jump in my AMG and go for a ride. I go to my car and it is slammed to the ground. I figured I'd jump in and turn it on hoping that the suspension would pick back up but nothing happens. Im figuring that my suspension is shot and I have the dreaded red "car too low" on my dash. What's the best course of action? How can I troubleshoot it? And should I go back with the air suspension or convert to "coil overs"? Any info would be great appreciated.

Out Of Control!!
That's the very complicated AIRmatic suspension system and your issue could be any one of a number of faults---find someone with DAS Xentry or equal to run a quick test then you fix the faults.
To move the car you need a tow truck----I'd quickly go back overseas and let the wife or girlfriend resolve the problem.

If it sank totally, the problem may be the air pump, which is not expensive and easy to replace. If it had gone down at just one corner or the rear, it would more likely be the air bags. MB dealer prices for these are nuts. I just had a good independent mechanic put Arnott airbags on the rear of mine for about $1,300. If you want to preserve the ride, forget coilovers.
Move the car with a flatbed. Those drivers usually carry enough wooden planks to ease the transition onto the truck.

yep you'll need a flatbed and wood to get on. I've had 2 flatbeds deny me and 2 take me.
any shop with a newer scanner can read the suspension error logs. luckily our cars generally will state exactly what's wrong.
I love my airmatic and wished all my cars had air ride.

I have Strutmasters coilovers and the ride is fine. Mercedes mechanics who drove it told me they were totally surprised when they started work on the car and realized the air suspension was gone. Strutmasters stopped offering a kit for the E55, but Arnotts has one. I'm driving my 2006 E55 coast-to-coast round trip in a few months, and waking up to a slammed ride would not be acceptable.
