Well, I personally did it (aftermarket filters) in my previous 2 cars bc I hated having to change paper filters and this and that... It makes sense down the line if you keep the car beyond the length of the free maintenance. Now on my 05 E55, ill be putting htem in right away, regardless of performance change, since im gonna be paying for services..
