How the hell did you guys get past the pulleys? I got through everything so far but there’s just no way this thing is coming out with the idlers in the way.

Hahah! Yeah it isn’t easy - removing the fan helped - but this was a crazy *** thing to do.
Man this helped me cut my first ever time in a total of 2hrs and 22 minutes to get the alternator out and a new one in, I used to tell myself I would never work on a benz because I thought they were 10000x more complicated then what I’m used to like jdms & Muscles but even though it is it isn’t
I will say the hardest part of this job is getting the alternator on & out it was a complete pain the *** and I was about to give up on trying to pull it out and put the new one back in!
i am tackling this DIY and have unmounted the alternator but i cant seem to get it out. Does anyone have any suggestions? do i have to remove the pulleys ?

I wiggled it out by manipulating all the coolant hoses out of the way without having to remove them; with the exception of what the OP wrote on the hoses that need to be removed. It CAN be done! But very hard to refrain from using obscenity while you doing it. Good luck.
You did follow OP instructions by first disconnect battery, what about the fan shroud?
yes i did disconnected the battery..lol and removed the fan shroud...i ended up unbolting the pulley and from that point on it was pretty easy to get out. thanks
FYI, i hear some members are paying around $160+ for a rebuilt bosch alternator. why not spend an extra $70 and get a brand new one on amazon. I believe i paid $230 for a brand new OEM bosch alternator
