Steering wheel installed
Steering wheel installed
Add me to the list of people who have installed a custom steering wheel. We got the burl walnut and charcoal. I highly recommend this upgrade because of the great look and feel. Nice and beefy like my C32 wheel was, but even better. And Autowerks was great to deal with.
Kev, I've never mastered being able to post photos. However, in the thread 'new steering wheel upgrade' on the CL55 site there are some great photos of what is basically my wheel. Just took my first ride with it(let the wife drive it home last night). Too sweet. Had the snows taken off too so the whole ride is nicer.

Cost... $1395 and up depending on what color/wood and other options (Such as shift button compatibility), etc you want.

I got mine from Autowerks Direct...Mine came in a RennTech box but I believe it's made by the same OEM supplier to MB.
The shifters from the old steering wheel pry right out...thread the wire through the new one, and snap back the shifter button. Very easy...
Airbag is also the factory one...two torx screws at the back.

I like it- nice steering wheel man, does it make the steering feel tighter??!!
I love the feel...especially since I like to hold the wheel lower (to prevent getting hands in the way of airbag). The finger dimples and thumb rest are perfect. Allows you to rest your thumbs instead on putting it through the spokes. As friend of mine recently learned the hard way...threading your finger through the spokes might break them in an accident. As an ER dr, I've seen too many hands broken and hands burned from airbag deployment.
Who ever designed this should go knock on MB's door! MB if you're listening....MAKE THIS WHEEL STANDARD EQUIP! (at least on AMG cars)
Renntech quoted me $1595 and wanted my stock wheel. I wasn't having any of that so called Autowerks. Same price but never mentioned needing my wheel. Then they left a message saying they made a mistake and it was only $1495. As to the feel, I find it makes for a much sportier and less sedan like feel. It's thick all around and my wife especially likes the 4 and 8 Oclock positions.

Eddy - who installed the wheel for you ? Isn't it great to be off the snows ? I too swapped mine off - took nice little drive down to Wash DC - as the kids said "here we go ready for take off" - boy are they right ! Flew by an M5 - he wouldn't play

My woman also prefers a "thick" one. Is that "4 and 8 position" anything like a "69 position" or more missionary?

We're planning a trip to either the Air and Space museum or Monticello in May. Should be nice now that the Command is working decently.
