Fuel Smell and Resolution GREAT news !
As most are all aware, there is that fuel smell and subsequent fuel pump/filter/sending unit issue and gas leaking out of "most often" the drivers side unit under the passenger seat... In my 2006 e55.. i started to small that smell of concern about a month ago....so I was aware things were going down a bad road.. I also have 95K on the car so i consider myself fortunate to have lasted this long...... the other day, after driving around, then parking i could not restart the car even though I had 1/4 tank left.
so that, along with the smell made me make an obvious deducing that the unit finally went kaput.. I verified this by grabbing a gas can and putting 5 gallons in.. car ran fine. So the drivers side unit was obviously no longer sending gas over to the passenger side tank.
so here I am thinking that i have to research and buy and plan for the repair.. and i see that these units are around 500 each.. so even with DIY im at a grand and more with bushings/gaskets etc.
now the good news..
thanks to this forum and other research i did...... i find that MB put out a free 15 yr unlimited mileage warranty on these parts for all 03 to 06 w211 amg cars... So today I call MB.... they tell m bring the car in asap.... i do that.... They just called me and confirmed the issue is as i thought and that everything is covered under that MB warrenty and i get everything .... pumps filters gaskets tanks... FREE.. 3K worth of dealership repair.. all they do is run your VIN to verify
So I encourage all.. if you have any inclination that you have this issue, call your MB dealer....now

I hope this helps someone...
