What is this part?

Hi All.

Today I found this part in my E55.
It was sitting loose under the front upper edge of the side-skirt in the LH front door opening. I think It has been there for a while because the top edge of the skirt is now bent where it was sitting.

It's clearly a hinge/pivot of some type. I can not see any MB part number on it.

Is this a part of the car, or a foreign object?

Looks like either a clip that holds the side skirt in or a part of the two piece clip that holds the side skirt small rubber molding together. The molding is between the bottom of the fender and the top of the side skirt and is about 7-8 inches long.
