Technical Difference(s) in M156 Air Inlets
Just wondering if anyone knows why MB/AMG changed the design of air inlet tubes on the 07-11 M156 engines, specifically part numbers, 156 090 02 29 and 156 090 03 29. I'm guessing that the little "box" in the center (03 29) is some sort of silencer but why did they feel it was necessary and did it make any difference in performance?

My ML has the old intake tube without the black-box thing. I think it's an intake resonator, helps with the noise and the waves resonating back and forth, I could be wrong though.

I don't have that on my 07 E63, but I don't understand when you say helps with the noise? What noise are your referring to?
