Must have electronics for this car?
Hi guys
Is there some type of device I should buy to monitor important numbers?
Or a thread you can link me to that will have some info on what to buy and look out for?
So far my car is stock... but I want to get baseline information and have something to refer to when I do start making it a bit faster.

I use the elm327 bluetooth adapter and the "torque" app for android to monitor my AIT and timing along with coolant. All together for both I spent 27$

I already have a $7 ebay adapted that i use with Torque, I was unaware that app is that capable. I'll buy the full version.
What about Star diagnostics? I'm looking into getting a kit, but I don't really know where to start, I have been searching around but can't find anything conclusive from older threads...

Star from Shardul for me. Excellent service and support.
Data acquisition if you want the most out of your mods and tune. Zeitronix is the most accepted on this board, I run an LM-2 from Innovate Motorsports for mine. Really a toss up. You will have more support for Zeitronix here as multiple members have one. LM-2 only has two members I know of, me and BlackHammer.
I use Torque Pro only for logging timing. The resolution is just too low to get meaningful data beyond one or two PID's.

$850 is a bit too steep for me for now, I'll have to put the SDS on hold... just forked over $3600 in preventative maintenance at the local indy (flex discs, spark plugs, tensioner, etc etc). And I got word that my airmatic compressor is taking a ****, $740 to repair with OEM parts, so I think I'll do away with the airmatic when the system dies (or replace the compressor myself if I have the *****). This car is definitely not designed to be supported by an engineer salary alone.... should've picked a better major in school.
Ordered a tuning cable and green filters from Shardul, excited to see how the car will change once I pick it up.
What drew you to the LM-2?
Is there a guide you refer to for values to monitor?
And lastly, I saw radar detector being mentioned, I think that will be a must... thoughts? How reliable do you feel they are? I am definitely hungry for some speed runs on these nice Floridian roads... but I already went to court once for 30 over and my insurance premium spiked quite a bit...

How long do these last before they get outdated in your honest opinion???
Time to hit up craigslist...

Well, mine is outdated already as Escort no longer makes this model. Passport has two new models available, that replaced the 9500ci, but they still supports it, you pay $50 a year for all the updates related to speed cameras, software, etc. But the new ones still utilize much of the same technology. Currently there isn't another manufacturers installed radar detector that's better, besides another Passport.

I got the LM-2 from BlackHammer. I took the information I found on the board here and was able to figure out what needed to be done to log the factory sensors properly. Shoot me a pm and I'll send you the docs I used to set up either a Zeitronix or an Innovate LM-2.
It helps that I have had experience previously in the industry but I am glad to share what i know.
That is why in my opinion we have these forums.

for me...this serves its purpose. I have not used a zeitronix. For monitoring it has been superb. If you were to use it as a sole reference for engine operations that would be a toss up. response time is as good as I've seen from a digital gauge. beyond that you would best use bars, charts, or psudo analog gauges. I'm not sure exactly all the display modes available, or if you're only able to display numbers. I do wished that they included functions that use calculations to display things differently. I.e. AFR from lambda or voltage to AFR. simple things like that aren't supported. the unit basically just displays what your computer sees. I do enjoy displaying trip MPG, instant MPG, and wideband lambda. Oh ya I did email them about adding feature of zeroing the throttle pedal display. they said this wasn't supported so absolute throttle will essentially only display actual throttle position based off the sensor itself.
