How to make W211 E63 sound like C63 or W212 E63
Hello MBWorld. I just got my 1st MB a 2009 E63 AMG P030. Love the car. However one thing that upsets me is that the W204 C63 and W212 E63 with the M156 engines. The exhaust note sounds much better and inticing than the W211 E63 AMG. Even with res/secondary cat deletes and x pipe it sounds nothing compared to the C63 and W212 E63. I love how the C63 sounds with res/secondary cat delete and x pipe. I was wondering if there is a way to make my W211 E63 sound exactly the same way? Is it the difference in mufflers? Idk. Please someone help me out.

As I have had both a 07 E63 and a 10 C63, the E63 is weak in the exhaust note department as compared to the C63. I loved the exhaust note of my C63, but the E63 was designed to be a luxury Autobahn burner not a loud hotrod which is the C63.

I don't have an E63, but I used to run E63 mufflers on my E55 and it was obnoxiously loud. My set up was no cats, no resonator, and x-pipe. I would start with no resonator, then no cats, then headers. Good luck.

PP cars are a little lower stock.
I just put long tube headers with x pipe and still have the stock resonator and the car sounds pretty damn near perfect. I am worried if i get the C63 mufflers if it will be too loud or not sound as solid. I used to have a C63 without cats.

I don't see why it wouldn't fit, but will require some modification, as these are two different platforms. These cars from the onset weren't meant to be loud, but if you put your foot in it, well that's a different story

Interesting thread. I don't have an E63, but absolutely love the sound of our E55. Simply love it. I have a W205 C63S now too, but my wife and I agree that the E55 still sounds better.
Anyone have a position on the E55 vs. E63 sounds? Just curious.

I'm biased, of course. However, many feel that the NA M156 is one of the best sounding engines from AMG. Tube it and x it, you've really got a nice soundtrack.

I'm also biased, as I have a E63. But the interesting thing is that if I keep the car in third gear, and run it up to 3-5K in the rpm range, and let off the throttle you get this nice gurgle pooping sound in the exhaust, when you let off the throttle. It's intoxicating And that is one thing I love about my C63, which shared the same engine. But it's exhaust note was even louder

Yeah, the c's muffler's are different than the e, so I'm told. The c's are more like megaphones for a more purpose-built car, whereas they toned down the e because of the luxury factor. There was a guy on here that adapted c muffs to an e and got the result he was looking for. Then there's akropovic, etc. for those with deep pockets and the will.

That's the thing, almost everyone wants a louder exhaust note on a E Class. MB never meant for this to be a loud obnoxious vehicle, unless one goes WOT, then she will bark.
I had a 1994 Mustang Cobra back in the day, and wanted a louder exhaust note. So I had FlowMaster 2 chamber exhausts installed, that car had a resonance hum from 1800-2200 rpm, that was annoying as hell. Cruising down the Hwy in 5th gear at 1800 rpm, will annoy anyone. That was the biggest mistake that I had ever made. So for me, my current exhaust is just perfect for me, I got the gurgling that I like plus the roar when I need to.

Exhaust
I have a w211 e63.
I recently got some rare software for it so it blip downshifts like the w212 ans c63. And it sounds amazing.
I have done a resonator delete with a h pipe Nd it has defitenely improved the tone and noise.
Apprently its still quiet inside put louder outside.
I still want to have that c63 oem tone agression.
What can i do?

They're all wrong. If you're truly looking for the STOCK W212 E63 sound then you need to get a STOCK W212 exhaust which means, primary and secondary cats, resonator and mufflers.
Long tube headers sound NOTHING like the stock E63. The car will be really really loud. You'll be missing the cats AND have long tube headers. I've heard the M156 with this setup personally many times and I have yet to find one quiet one. To me, it's obnoxious and I can't stand it. It takes away the AMG deep rumble and makes it into a raspy race car sound.
The W212 E63 also has that thing it does between gear changes, I don't think you can get that, it's an MCT thing. I think the car deactivates 2 cylinders or something during the gear change.
The stock W212 E63 sounds alot nicer than a C63 in my opinion. It's very deep, it makes pops in the exhaust if you quickly short burst depress the pedal in Park and has this crazy sound when you WOT redline it, I can't explain it but I think it's the best sounding M156 by far. I would never ever ever ever change the exhaust in my car, it's so damn perfect.
The stock W211 E63 in my opinion sounds better than the C63 but not as good as the W212.
All in all though, doing X pipes or resonator deletes, cat deletes, long tube headers will give you a sound nothing like a stock W212 E63. What ever floats your boat but if you're looking for a stock W212 E63 sound, you need a stock W212 E63 exhaust system, complete (besides the manifolds which are the same). Maybe the cats are the same too, check, I'm not sure. The resonator could be the same as well, I really don't know but the mufflers are different no doubt.
Good luck! By the way if you do LTH know that you'll be smelling fumes if you start up in a garage as you lose the cats. That and your neighbors will HATE you, maybe you're aiming for that though, those *******S!!

I agree with Infiniti. I had concerns before I put on LTH's, but turned out to be one of the best things I've done. No rasp, no smells or fumes, and not loud at all until you get on it. I live in an HOA, zero lot line community with an 80 year lady old next door, who is nosier than Mrs. Kravitz and never had one issue with the volume of my car, even working on it in the garage. Have a EC tune and pass inspections with no problem. I did leave the stock E63 mufflers in place as I was looking for performance gains and sound, not volume.
Most of the folks with an E63 W211 with LTH's will tell you the same thing. To each his own opinion.

As for the sound, I don't know what kind of LTHs you have but they are LOUD, especially with cold starts. Unless your garage is heavily soundproofed I don't know how it's quiet. My car is stock and yet if it's 2am, my neighbors will hear it start.
So glad you're amused.

You passed inspection without catalytic converters? That makes no sense. It's literally one of the most serious car tampering crimes (at least where I live) to remove the catalytic converters. Did you relocate them and install them down the exhaust, past the LTHs?

I have AR LTH's installed by EC. I also have a normal garage, typically built. She barks a little on start up, but nowhere near what you have experienced. It is a bit louder on start up than stock, but not obnoxiously so. The only time I really can tell a volume difference is when I get on it. I don't do that in my neighborhood. The overall tone is deeper and throatier than stock, and if idling and goosed, it has a hint of raspiness. But when being driven with typical throttle modulation, no raspiness is detected. Just growl until WOT, then scream. I, personally, like it and will miss it when I go to another platform.
Everyone has their own take on it. I own this car, have LTH's with resonator and stock mufflers and this is my experience and opinion. Others MMV, but in the end, the preference of sound is opinion, not fact.

My E63 with a resonator delete is loud enough on cold start up to **** off my neighbors. Luckily the ones I talk to don't care and like my car. I also don't DD it and it's usually in the afternoons when it gets started up. I'd feel like an ******* if I fired it up at 6:30am every day so I could take it to work.

Mine does bark on start up, but I just don't have that problem, well, me and my neighbors don't. It is also not my daily, but I do fire it up in the a.m. for the cooler drive in the Texas summers. Although the old lady next door calls the E my hot rod, she doesn't complain about it. And if she was even remotely bothered, she would. I live on a quiet cul-de-sac, and not all my neighbors are my friends, so I don't think they are just tolerating it.
I guess each has their own take on it, and suppose one's definition of loud is a product of opinion, environment and what we may be, or get, used to. I just can't imagine why our experiences should run so counter.
