Avin or Dynavin Head Unit
I really want to upgrade my head unit in my E55. I want to keep the factory look so I have been looking at the Avin and Dynavin units. I see they now have an adapter that hooks to the fiber optics of our vehicles so the units will use the factory HK amp and speakers. They also sell the fiber optic unit separately so that one can install any aftermarket radio while still using the HK amp and speakers. Has anyone done this? I want to pull the trigger this week.

Yes I just installed the adapter with a nothing special pioneer double din using Harmon kardon amp and speakers. Sounds better than the stock unit. I have only just driven today for the first time so still playing with the settings. You cannot fade with the most adapter, only right left balance but it is perfect in my opinion as it is. Install is very easy it has 12v constant, ground and the fibre optic plug.

I stream my tablet over Bluetooth to the factory radio. more functionality than any aftermarket head unit. sound quality from the factory amp or deck can be improved though.

The AVIN 3 comes out ASAP and I plan on installing it and documenting the install for fellow members using the fiber optic decoder. I have the Harmon Kardon factory APS 50 unit and will retain the speakers and amp.

I recently installed a PioneerNEX 8100 HU along with MERCEDES E CLASS, CLS, SLK CLASS CAN BUS FIBER OPTIC AMPLIFIER RETENTION INTERFACE WITH STEERING WHEEL CAPABILITIES CTSMC013.2 along with a double dinn kit I love it kept stock speakers and amp.

Did that require you keeping the stock amp? The stock speakers sound fine (with the exception of the sub) but seem underpowered.

Yes I kept the stock amp in the car, I didn't replace any speakers at all. I may in the future. I also hooked up a rear view backup camera which is integrated with my NEX 8100 HU.
