As you can see here.
Thanks for the quick replies !
That relay is for the secondary air injection pump located under the front left bumper. One fuse is for that relay, the other fuse for the two PWM modules which are mounted on the fender well over the rear tire. Should be just outside the left side of your picture.
Wire color ? I checked the two 40 amp fuses both look good. Ive called a tow truck to get it to an indy with a star system . Wish me luck guys. I need my baby back on the asphalt!
Apologies for not being able to contribute to (or even follow) this thread, it's way over my head. But, I stumbled upon it as I was trying to figure out why I can't open the trunk with the buttons inside the car or on the trunk (but the trunk close button works as expected). My (new to me) car is a 2003 W211 E55 sedan. Anyway...when I opened the fuse panel in the trunk, it looked like there was at least 1 fuse missing. Should there be a fuse in the #4 spot here?:
Unfortunately, there is no fuse chart in the panel up front and the chart that I found online indicates that that is for the fuel pump.
I'm happy to start a fresh thread on the matter if it'll hijack this thread too much to discuss.
Open a new thread. It could be a fuse, relay, broken wire, switch or the SAM. Someone has that fuse schematic.
See what Pablo cruze says..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnTe-tB6s9M
I've seen that video (and their video about fuel pump fuse and relay). Thanks.
My car starts and runs fine without that #4 fuse in place. I thought, "How the hell is my car running without power to my fuel pump??" So, maybe the 2003 W211 E55 has a different fuse mapping...which is why I posted here.
Also, my #11 fuse is intact.
I'll start a new thread soon. Swamped at work now. I want to make a thorough first post.
AMG w211 Fuel pump fuse and relay set up is different. It even varies among E55 model years. See bbirdwells post on fuel pump info. Barry is the Guru!!
My car is a 2004, I have 2 new old stock xxx470000 fuel pumps coming from USA, will they be plug and play or I need to purchase a new connector to have them connected to my existing hardware? TIA
Big thanks to @bbirdwell for doing all the good work to make this possible.
I am sharing my current solution (subject to change if necessary) as a means to offer another route for those in a position like me with a million junkyards within close proximity. I had difficulty finding proper 9.5mm and 6.3mm FUSE terminals, all I could find was regular spade terminals like those used for speakers. I was checking out a wrecked Volvo to see if I could pull any speakers from it and decided to see if they also had an appropriate relay and socket I could pilfer. Well not quite, but I was able to make use of what I found: in the fuse box under the hood, there are two 75A relays, with proper relay/fuse terminals. I took a small hacksaw and cut away one part, snipped the wires, and installed it into my car.
I'm currently using the Audi relay that bbirdwell called out earlier in this post, they're available on Audis and VWs also; stamped with the number 370 on top.
Did the new ECU fix your issue? I'm. Thinking about going with a new ECU, but I want to make an informed decisicion..
I'm literally having the exact same issues as you.

How this happened still remains unknown, I do not know if I crossed some wires which damaged the module in the ECU that controls the closing of the open collector, or if the component coincidentally failed, as the original relay while a little burnt still does pass a bench test. Nothing inside the ECU looks burnt or otherwise damaged
