that should be approved for the E55. If you were to adhere to MB's recommendations, you'd only use rear tires with the "XL" rating. (Extra Load). If I'm correct, there are only two tires that meet this rating and are sized for the E55. One is from Continental and one from Bridgestone.

Norb, I read that about XL tires too I think from an on line manual. However, some others on this board are reporting E 55's coming from the facotry with Pirellis and Michelins.

Perhaps you are referring to the new PS2 Pilot Sport? It is already out. The 265 is rated 97Y just like the stock Conti's. Goodyear also has the GS-D3. The real problem is getting front tires that are rated that high. The stock tires are only 93Y's and the front tires have more weight on them than the rears. The load on the fronts under braking will be higher than the load on the rear under acceleration. Pirelli has a high rated front but the rear is lower. I will likely put PS2's on and use the 265's on the front and the 275's on the rear. The 275's are only 95Y's but I think it's worth a shot.

E55
Incidentally, when I go to Tirerack, put in E55, leaving all else open, it comes back only with Michelin PS2. Are Conti's, Pirelli's etc. no longer availalble in te correct sizes?
