Thoughts on AMG as a tuning company
I'm just wondering......Companies like Carlsson, Brabus etc...do after maket tuning on the E55....sometimes to over 600 bhp....can AMG do the samething? I mean can you order an E55 from AMG and ask them to tune it before it leaves the factory...??
The new CLK-DTM limited edition uses the same 5.5 K engine..but outputs 580 bhp.....can we get the E55 with 580 bhp or maybe the uprated brake disc from the SL55 performance Package?
When I placed the order for my E55....I asked them to tune the output of the engine to 500 bhp....Identical to the SL 55..(I would imagine this to be a relatively simple job for them..maybe just re-program the ECU).....the reply from them was that yes it is possible to do that (never mentioned to me the additional cost) but it would mean that I would have missed my Jan, 04 production slot and it would be pushed back about 6 months...

I know that there have been people with customized AMG cars, different than the AMG specials, but how did they get them to do it, not sure exactly.

If someone offers to charge you $$ to raise your E55's hp to be equivalent to the SL55's, you should walk the opposite direction. They're already equivalent (see previous discussions).
MB will chip the E55 (or SL55 etc), maintain warranty, and add another ~50hp for right around $5000.
