E55 Snow Prep

Hi guys,

This will be my E55's first season seeing snow (I live in Detroit). I know of all the normal basic maintenance items for our AMG's, but is there anything specific I should do for snow/salt duty? It's an '04 with 105k miles.

Thanks!

Or at least all season. Up to date on oil change and coolant flush. Good battery, both, maybe checked at local auto parts. Little lock lube if you use a key to enter. Jumper cables, ice/snow scraper, window washer fluid filled with -20 or better....if you don't know what's in there...run it dry first. Avoid the crap drivers out there.

If you have anything more than a dusting of snow each year, winter tires are the way to go. All seasons won't cut it.

Keep a blanket and flashlight (with good batteries) in the car too.

Empty fuel tanks are both prone to condensation and leaving you really cold if you get stuck somewhere.

Good wiper blades mean visibility.

I'm in San Diego so not exposed to this type of stuff.....but is there any undercoating that could be used to prevent exposure to salts and such causing rust?

Thanks for all the info, guys. Sounds like snow tires on these cars is a must. I've lived in Michigan my whole life, so snow driving isn't a problem (RWD '95 F-150... now that was interesting).

Thanks!
