The Lexus IS300 is competitive is SCCA Pro Racing. It will be interesting to see how MB's C class racers will do by years end.

Great engine, SMG is an incredible transmition, the best I've used but I haven't warmed up to the looks.

Well, I have to partially agree, the interiors of the new 5s and 6ers do look pretty cheap, but that's where it ends. It merely LOOKS cheap, which isn't great for a luxury car manufacturer, but the actual build quality and fit & finish isn't all too bad; its pretty good IMO.

But yes, BMW needs to learn a thing or two from Honda. The Accord manages to look great in the pics, but quality isn't overwhelming.

"It merely LOOKS cheap,"

No, it is cheap. The color on the BMW plastic will scrape off like paint unlike the Mercedes plastic. The BMW interior fit and finish is not good either.

E55/BMW X54.4/Porsche 914-6 2.8
I've been driving BMW's since 1973 when I purchased a 2002. In 1976 I purchased a 530i. From then on, it has been 5 series BMW's for me. Always told people they were the benchmarks for all other makes.

Then comes the restyled 7 series and I'm literally shocked at the design. Knowing that my 2001 540 6 sp. has a lease expiring in 2004 I become somewhat worried about the design direction. When the design is released to the public I can't believe that it's actually uglier than the 7. So I put down a deposit on the new 6. I see it for the first time at the auto show and not only is it also ugly but it's the cheapest interior I have ever seen......and NO SUNROOF!!!

Lucky for me the Mercedes display was next door. I wandered over in shock and spied a black E55. I couldn't believe it. What a beautiful car! I never considered a Mercedes until that day. I loved it and went straight to a dealer and ordered one.

It's still hard to believe that I don't drive a BMW after 30 years but if they think they can put out cars THAT ugly and I'll buy them they are obviously mistaken. As much as I enjoy my E55 I don't know what BMW can do to get me back now.

I currently own a Mercedes-Benz, an Audi and a Honda. Test drove the 5 and 7 overnight. Bought an SL500 over the 745i and an E55 over the 545i.

No, the new generation BMWs not only look cheap, they also FEEL cheap. Honda is slightly better but it squeaks and rattles like there is no tomorrow. The Audi and Mercedes do have far better quality in my opinion.

And I agree with Bikr Boy, the new BMWs are drop dead ugly.
