Most people including Dealers and 95% of banks do though. Most people apply for a loan when purchasing a vehicle. The increased amounts people are asking for these cars is not covered by the bank. So it all becomes out of pocket. A very risky proposition if you ask me.

Finacially sound decision? Have you ever heard of building up and establishing good credit? Car loans are excellent for that. When I say risky proposition I’m mainly speaking on Bank value for if the car is stolen you’re screwed. You’ll get a check for $15k to replace a car that you paid $25k for that was completely stock. Yikes

Sure you could and also add an additional couple grand in GAP insurance tacked on to the Loan. Playing with fire in my opinion. Thanks for everyone's input on the matter. I'm out on buying one. Way too many risk involved with what people are asking for these cars.

Why not a sedan? You could get one for almost half the price of a wagon! I am in the PNW as well, got my immaculate E55 sedan with 24k miles on it, one owner car, for mid 20's. Some say I overpaid, and if you judge by KBB I did, the car is truly immaculate though and by far the best 4 door car I ever owned.

I have a few buddies with E55/E63 sedans. I've owned several really nice Sedans (ISF/M5/M3). I have a Auto Salon in Auburn and have a customer with a Grey E55 wagon and just had a itch to get one. But I know the car industry well and how banks and insurance work. The asking prices are just way too risky on all sides. If someone want's to pay that more power to them. I've wanted to build a b8.5 S4 for awhile and may go that route. APR has developed some really nice parts that can put one in the 11's for about $4k.
so so it wasn’t about the car from the beginning. It was about the speed and making 11s a quarter. Yeah... doesn’t look like it’s the car for the OP. 😉
There are much more better and faster options out there for this. I’ll bet this could be done do less than a current wagon prices. They are what they are. Good luck with either decision you’ll make 👍

got it without the wheels. I too wasn’t a fan of them. Mainly because the roads in San Diego would destroy them. Going to bring the ride height back up to stock and then focus on wheels, tint, and ceramic pro for the paint. Black cars are the worst to keep clean. Love car.. not as much initial grunt in comparison to what my C55 felt like. But it weighs more. But holly hell when you step on it. Love it!! Best purchase I’ve made in cars so far. Need a wagon to support the track car. Moving a full set of wheels is super easy. Plus these things are so freaking useful in day to day activities. I’ve owned a bmw 540i wagon for just over 4 years now. So I’m now broken and won’t b going back to sedans ever. This one will be up for sale again in 5-6 years. I’ll be buying a new generation e63 after that.

E55/63 wagons aren't the type of car you head over to KBB to find a value on. Its similar to going there to see what an E30 M3, 993 Turbo, etc is worth. Its just not that type of car. KBB doesn't know how to value it because they dont have enough sales figures to base anything on. The other side of this coin is that insurance doesn't know what to do with them either. I was dreading what would happen if ours was to ever get totalled, so I had it independent;y apprised for stated value and it came back at more than what we paid for it (based on the adjusters internet searches of real value, recent sales, including the wagon thread on this forum). It actually ended up lowering my insurance in the process for some reason.
