Looking for Advice Prior to Purchasing

Hi All,

I am looking at an '07 E 63 AMG with approximately 80k miles. The car looks clean and in good conditions but I'm curious about any mechanical red flags specific to the W211, 07 model year, or the mileage. My technical knowledge is relatively limited but I am curious if there is anything I can look for that would be a clear red flag short of taking it to a mechanic?

Any input or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Here you go: Google search for W211 E63 "Common Problems" on MBworld.org.

If you find one you're serious about, take it to a trusted indy shop or dealer and have a PPI done. It's 100% worth the cost. These cars can be extremely expensive to fix if you aren't a DIY type person.

Take it to a good mechanic. Pay the $200-300. Even a little thing wrong with these cars runs you $1000. A big problem can be $4000 or even $10,000.

It's an amazing car, but many of us forget that it's a $100k car when new. And repair costs are in line with that.

And consider changing out the head bolts. We just had a great member on this forum who just suffered a headbolt failure in his E63. Personally, my unsolicited opinion, I wouldn't buy an E63 without changing the headbolts.

You have to be prepared for a few pretty uncommon but expensive things with these cars. For example it is difficult to prevent running into conductor plate failure which is not cheap on the 7 speed 722.9. Head bolts, lifters and cams can need replacing, again very expensive if they fail. You can replace these preventatively (or at least the bolts) but again even this is not cheap. I have $5k put aside for repairs and the E55 repairs are a lot cheaper and easier than the E63 (in my opinion).
