Navigation question...small towns???

My dealer told me the other day that he could fix my only E55 ordering error...I passed on the NAV.

Now I regret not getting it, but he said a factory retrofit is available for $1660 installed. Before I bite the bullet, I went to the dealership today and played around with the NAV from another W211 car. I was very distraught to find it did not do any street level mapping for smaller towns and cities. Larger cities...yes, the smaller streets showed up fine but anything less than 25,000 pop. it showed only the main throughfares. None of the regular city streets.

I find it hard to believe that the NAV could be so basic. Can you guys who have lived with the system for awhile tell me if thats the way it is?

I'm also waiting for NAV TV to work out a setup for the W211. I called last week and he said to call back in about a month, they've almost got it ready. (He also said it's taken so long because it's been one of the most difficult systems they've tried to adapt)

Hmm, I live in a town of fewer than 25,000 people and my town is fully mapped (definitely the street I live on, which is not a thoroughfare).

Having owned a Lexus I found the Nav to be the same as for details in smaller towns. One thing Lexus nav has over the MB is the woman's voice in the MB is annoying and sounds like a Marine drill instructor, well as opposed to the sexy and sensual voice of the woman on the Lexus nav. However, I really like the MB system better.

Sometimes you have to zoom in to get the smaller streets. That is how it works on my W210 nav.
I really like the nav system. One gets spoiled quickly with its funtionality especially if you use it with the teleaid info system. If you have the dough I would do it

I live in a "village" that although is on the outskirts of a large city is still a "village" with only 7 or 8 streets total. It shows up on my NAV. No problem and I can't think of a feature on the car that I like more.

pbglas

The obvious way is to use the i button and call information for an address and just add it into the system as they give it to you.
I believe there is also some functionality with the S-class nav that allows them to just send the information to your nav system. I don't know about the W211. You might want to check it out though.

Hope it helps, I like it for finding directions to a new resturant or club.
