Command center

I just purchased my wife a new E55. Took it to the local aftermarket shop and put 19 in. Carlsson ultra-light wheels on and PS2 tires. Also had installed Carlsson's lowering unit, which dropped the car almost an inch. We are very happy with the look.

The owner of the shop told me I could upgrade the command unit by replacing it with a European verison. This will allow me to play DVD audio and video. He said everthing else is the same, except I can't use the seek control on the AM band. I never use AM anyway. The installed price is $3,700. I forgot to ask him if the satellite radio will still work, which is being installed this week. He also tells me that the antenna, which looks ugly can be installed behind the rear head rests under the fabric. My dealer doesn't know if it will work.

Has anyone changed out the command unit and found a good alternative for the location of the satellite radio antenna?

Hey Ken!

Welcome to the Board!

Check out the thread below labeled, "Attn:T-Bone" it should have all the Sat info you need.

Don't know of anyone who's done the whole Command swap yet but would love to hear your experiences with it.

Here is a thread where Steve aka MBenzNL did a Euro COMAND swap.
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...threadid=66805

I saw him finish one and the sound and picture quality is superb.

Regarding satellite in a EURO COMAND, that is not possible... yet.

It may be possible in the future, but that remains unknown as of right now.

I will upgrade to the EURO COMAND if satellite radio is possible in it. If not, I will stick with my US COMAND.

Ken Rogers, is that your car in the posts by BooBoo?

Sounds like it. The 35 grand spent so far will be going up. Nice mods though.

Thanks for the welcome. Looks like I found the right place. My car has not been posted and I yet to spend 35Gs on upgrades, but I think I'm working on it.

So it's my understanding that the euro unit works, but not the Sat radio, which I also have a problem with since I have already paid for it. I don't have a lot of interest in TV, so maybe I could replace it with the Sat radio. Maybe there will be some changes in 05. By the way, if I didn't go through my aftermarket guy where do you get a euro unit?

Also, does anyone know if the Sat radio antenna will work placed by the rear headrest
