Has anybody HERE built a custom CAI? And if so where did you buy the parts. I'm asking because $550 (not going to mention from who) is an unreasonable price for 2 filters, 4 pipes, and hardware.

I made some for my C32 a few years ago, same principle, very easy. Get spectre cone air filters. I got mine from ebay. Summit racing might be a better bet too. Then buy 3" or larger if it will fit aluminium tube some silicon bends, hose clamps and you are good to go. I am not convinced they add much to the E55 to make it worth it.

I made one for my car out of aluminium pipe, silicon elbows, some filters and jubilee clamps. I welded aluminium but you can also use cut silicon piping to go over two pieces of ali and fasten them with the clamps. If you want any effect out of it, move filters outside your engine bay otherwise it won't be any different to what you already have.
