2006 E55 AMG
So i went ahead and after several days of negotiating and looking at the car fax i decided to go look at it sunday he finally came down to $7600. Its 82miles away so not close but willing to do the drive for it. On the carfax it has a few things done...

ac dryer and compressor replaced
fuel tank replaced/ fuel level sending unit replaced
engine and tranny mounts replaced
rear axle seal replaced
brake hydraulic control unit replaced and brake fluid flushed
transmission oil pump seal replaced
computer module replaced
outside air temp sensor replaced
valve cover gaskets replaced
plug wires and plugs replaced

those are what i got from the carfax it does have a damage to right rear on it from my experience and selling cars if it was major it would be stated on carfax. So from the pics it looks amazing but i really need to look at it in person. Not my favorite color nor has many options ofcourse being a 03 but seems to be well kept which is super important to me.

if it’s not good, wait for another one. I’ll look for more

There are 2 different E55s listed on Craigslist in the Charlotte NC area. Quick search should find them.

Very difficult to find in my price range which is understandable. Have found a black one local to me that seems to look really good in the pics but wont at all go any lower in price. I think what i need to do is save up another 2k wait for another couple more to pop up start looking in march latest april. There justnot many of these out there and most people dont want to sell them.

Make sure you buy one with under 100k or else be ready to dump tons of money to revamp back up ,unless you want to be like many slap some pulleys tune drive while it's a pile of crap still. What's your range??

Just remember, there is no such thing as a cheap AMG. You will always be better off spending more for a better car.

Couldn't agree more. My E63 was one of the most expensive ones on the market when I pulled the trigger; it is now proving to be one of the cheapest ones...

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you and ended up buying one of the most expensive ones on CL at the time. The only real problem I've had with the car is that it needed engine mounts (costs me $130 plus lunch installed), which I knew when buying it. Other than that it's been a few small things that are no big deal. Out of all the ones I checked it, it was the only one that hadn't had any paint work done and it didn't need brakes. I have zero regrets spending more for the nice one. It also helped it had the color combo and options I wanted. When I bought mine, they had another guy that was on his way to come buy it (he'd already checked it out too). I didn't know this until they told me after I handed over the cashier's check to them.

It is getting head bolts next weekend as a preventative maintenance thing. The updated head bolts are a little over $100 at my friend's shop price and I'm paying him just under $800 labor for them and other stuff on both my cars. It will be a full weekend of work for him.

Me too, I got the lowest km 55 I could find in the best condition. My only issues have generally been mod related which doesn't really count and the fuel smell issue everyone runs into sooner or later.

The tank issue was fixed no cost to me and I got a loaner. Something like that is no big deal and a lot of these cars will have that issue. It was a minor inconvenience at most having to deal with going to the dealership.

Except for those outside the US as that appears to be the only country with the extended warranty due to the class action.

05 E55 AMG
Only 05 -06

Always Stick with later Models as a Rule. Gremlins are usually sorted out in the later years
Specifically with M113K platforms. Lookup Glycol Contamination in pre 2005 models (serious issue)
Also it has been noted that the supercharger volume is larger (different SC ending in 180 I think)

in my opinion if u cant do any of ur own work stick to later model but heres the thing .... most any of these cars no matter the year if its earlier then more than not all problems that coulda reared their head have been taken care of or werent an issue. I went with a 2003 an love it .... runs like a beast. An as for the supercharger yes 05-06 for the faster spinning 580 or 080 part number supercharger versus the earlier 280. This newer one spins 4.65% faster adding about 1.3 psi with the same pulley over the earlier model. For me i just kept looking til i found one avalible simple as that.

But honestly besides the radiator prob an different blower an some 06s even got slightly bigger injectors thats really bout only probs. They all will go through same amount of tires, same suspension probs .... they need constant attention, same sbc problems, same air suspension problems, and same fuel tank issues so really if u dont mind gettin ur hands dirty u can get a well taken care of earlier model for pretty good price just look for a good vehicle history report, receipts, and have it inspected.

I would get a 05-06 or if budget allows, CLS55. Always have about $5K ready for a rainy day. If the car has great service records, its worth getting high mileage

I wouldnt be afraid of anything under 150k. Just get the seller to do a compression test. These cars are not expensive to maintain and very well built
