W211 SBC reprogram

I have a ABS light on and the reason is because I purchaced a used SBC UNIT for the same year vehicle and model.... Now I'm being told I need to reprogram the Used Unit (SBC) for that light to turn off... What type of scanner Can I use to do a full reprogram of the SBC (ABS) Unit back to factory specs. Can the Mercedes star diagnostic be used and which model. thank you

I didn't think it needed to be coded. Regardless STAR DAS is used for this. STAR scan to check the code is also a good idea.

I have never installed a used SBC, only new. That being said, the SBC does not need to be coded or V.I.N. assigned. However, new or used there is a very specific procedure to initialize and bleed the SBC and all 4 wheels. It requires both a pressure bleeder capable of sustaining 2 -2.5 bar (30+ psi) and either a factory style scan tool (STAR) or a scan tool that emulates the factory tool. Also, before removal the SBC must be deactivated allowing all of the system pressure to bleed off to safe levels. Proceed with caution. This system is true "brake by wire" and generates extremely high pressures.. Complete SBC failure or improper installation can lead to car that is very hard to stop - as attested to by other posters on this forum.

You are correct that there are different units based on VIN. My point was that the unit does not require a matching, coded in VIN, to allow the SBC to communicate and operate within the vehicles network. A quick check by application looks like a 2003 and 2004 are the same with a change in 2005. The 2004 E500 with or without 4matic have the same application and also match the E55. As previously stated, always do the final part / vehicle match by VIN.
