Instrument Cluster Blank after dead battery, reset cluster?

2005 E55 AMG, 60k miles, stock

Main battery (trunk) died over the course of two months sitting. Tried to use a jump pack hooked directly to the main battery, but the main was too dead. While trying to crank, the cluster was still working, and the clock started cycling back around to 12. I put the car on trickle charge and was able to start the car the next day. However, at this point the entire instrument cluster was blank/dead.

After reading multiple threads, I disconnected both batteries and removed the cluster for 24 hours. Today plugged in the cluster, reconnected the batters and started the car, but the cluster is still blank.

Any ideas on how to reset the cluster or is it really dead? I read in one of the posts that the cluster can be reset by shorting a few of the internal components, but there were not details on how to perform this.
