M113 compressor failure mode

Sharing a link to Benz Performance Parts' Facebook page concerning a potential failure mode that can/will destroy your supercharger...I did not realize there are metal rings *inside* the Y-pipe to the throttle body. If bent while removing/installing the Y-pipe, a ring can potentially be pulled into the supercharger causing catastrophic failure.

Mine has safety wire on each side holding the rings in the boots.
Small strong wire wrapped around the metal ring and then stuck through 2 small holes coming to the outside of the boots. Twisted nice and tight. Comes out on the bottom side of the boots so they aren’t noticeable.

The metal rings fit into a groove in the boot pretty tight.
Honestly I don’t think they could come out very easily unless someone had the air boxes off and didn’t check to see if the rings were seated back into the groove before installing them back onto the Y pipe.
Unless, they are fitted to a round Y pipe like mine. Then I would be sure to check them before installing the boots back on.
