Installed LED number plate lights.
Hi all,
Today I installed LED number plate light units onto my E55.
These were the complete unit, not just a bulb replacement.
Please note that my car is a Japanese spec model, so it took me a while as to how to get the existing units out. I did a search on the forum, and found a few posts, but none that really made it that easy.
After effectively nearly butchering one light unit to get it out ( the base part), I realised that the Japanese spec has a totally removable number plate panel, that is nearly the entire vertical section of the boot lid. Once that was off it was easy to remove the original unit.
The vertical panel is only held on with three nuts, and then plastic locator clips across the top edge.
Both units are now in and working perfectly!
I intend to now get a set for my E500 as well, and as that is a Japanese spec model too, I will now not what and what not to do!
I also intend to take some pictures as well and load them up for future reference for anyone else contemplating doing this, with a Japanese spec model.
Cheers,
Graeme
