E55 Fuel Pump Replacement Options?
What are the options when replacing a bad fuel pump on the E55? Is it necessary to buy the entire “Module” from MB or are there Alternatives? I’ve found aftermarket replacement fuel filters but yet to find anything on just a direct fit pump. Seems rediculous you’d have to buy the whole assembly. Thanks

Yes you have to buy the whole thing or go custom aftermarket. They revised the sender assembly too so it gets better, you can buy that also. Are you in the US?

The right side of the car has the dual pumps, top pic. The left side has the fuel sender, filter etc and is the bottom pic. I would use one of the forum supporters and send your VIN, fcpeuro, pelican parts, ecstuning etc. Search posts by bbirdwell for more info than you ever wanted. Also beware the wiring changed and you may need to swap pins or buy a harness.

This shows a 250 VIN and my car is in the 779 VIN range. If your car is US spec the following should work. The "fuel delivery module" and the "tank inner module" that are checked must be used together (plus all the "+" marked items in the first and fourth blocks which are adapter cables, ties, cushion, etc); this is due to the unique hose connections between the two modules. The 17-94 module (old stock) will work with the 24-94 delivery unit and possibly/probably with the 51-94 delivery unit (I cannot verify this as I have never seen one or a photo of one). FWIW, I'm going to try opening up my "tank inner module" and replacing the filter with an aftermarket but that will be a month or two from now. Also, I installed the two modules that are checked off in the below figure. Like TW2 said, read a bit more as this subject has caused consternation amongst many.

Don't bother to swap between baskets; that is not the issue. It is the connections on the fuel pumps themselves plus the wiring change to the fuel pumps and to the filter/regulator. Connector gender changed in the latest version plus electrical harness changes.
Third-generation fuel filter/regulator only connects to the second-generation fuel pumps and both require adapter harnesses to connect to the stock OEM wiring harness.
And plan on replacing/upgrading the fuel pump relay, relay socket, and cutting/repairing the harness at the relay and/or at the fuel pump.
I've posted on this multiple times. Use "advanced search" and my user name with variations on "W211 E55 fuel pump relay and fuse maintenance" and "W211 E55 fuel pump replacement verify parts". You'll learn a lot.
