90mm BBK Throttle Body with no hiccups and CELs tuned by RaceIQ

Been running the 90mm BBK throttle body for about a month now. Currently daily driving the car to get the most feedback on this throttle body. Already over 500 miles with it on and I have had ZERO issues, hiccups, or even CELs. I want to give a special thanks and shootout to Anthony Lawshee/Race IQ for the crazy smooth tune. Absolutely no surging, no bucking, nothing. Thanks to VRP for the custom snout to use this throttle body. Thanks to my local shop Silver Arrows Motors in Las Vegas for helping this with project. We’ve installed over a dozen s550 82mm throttle bodies and now this 90mm bbk throttle body with NONE having issues.

WOW that's huge lol. I ran a 90MM BBK SSI intake and TB on my ZO6 a few years back. Beautiful throttle response! If I may ask though, what is that massive BBK box on top? Is it due to the fact that our TB is electric and not cable?

Alex, do you think your success not having the hiccup issue was due to the way you sealed everything up, tune, both, or something else?

It’s a Dodge Hemi 90mm:

The hiccups that I’ve seen people complain about are the lean spike from P0106 and P0505 and some drivability. Those 2 codes are leaks. One thing that I’ve noticed is gasket number 86 is a double layered gasket with 2 little metal O rings on the each side. That gasket causes a tiny leak. I have since not used it and applied gasket maker same one used at the dealer. Ultra RTV black seals good as well but it’s a pain to take off. I have my blower off pretty often since I’m always changing my set up. Now for drivability when I put the 90mm throttle body on right off the bat the car ran fine just a little leaner from the higher air volume but it only went from 11.2 to 11.8-11.9. So nothing too lean. Tony has the tune down pretty damn good. What’s funny is I didn’t even retune the car until after a week. The car’s throttle response is immediate. Atfer 5k rpm it keeps climbing vs falling with the 82mm tb.

I also noticed guys with fixed pulley have a hiccup with the 90mm Tb. I‘m clutched and will remain clutched until I eventually go 2.9L gen 3 whipple blower that weistec sells.

Good info, thanks. Since you pull your blower off regularly do you reuse the other gaskets or put on new ones? Do you use sealant on any gaskets or instead of gaskets like you did with #86?

Always new gaskets. I use the MB gasket maker on both sides of the gaskets then seal together. Once sealed I let it cure/dry for a day. Next day put the blower on. Connect the vacuum lines, then the surge tanks, plug in all harnesses, etc. Next you smoke test it. Take your time and ensure there’s no signs of smoke. Put the intake on and go for a test drive for a few miles. Then smoke test it again. Done.

Now this is food for thought. I don't suppose you done any before and after dyno's to check the difference from 82mm to 90mm?

Nope, because my last dyno pull was last year making 540/663 on a SAE Dynojet around 2800 DA at 12psi. My currrent DA is over 6000 DA and I’m only seeing 9-10psi. Unless I get the same weather conditions or close to it I won’t waste my time or money. I did a roll against my buddy’s 2014 Turbo S and I put 2 to 2.5 cars on him. So I know for a fact I made big gains with this and the other mods I did.

Thats a bold statement to say that p0106 hiccup problem is related to airleeks, that makes many of us to complete idiots,as we have chased this grale a long time, sealed and resealed everything. The problem is not airleeks IMHO

Have to agree with above on this Das .... your a good guy an im glad you have had success brother becus believe me i WANT to have a bigger TB! I am very very precise when puttin everything together. I use brand new gaskets from MB every single time. I have smoke tested til i was blue in the face with 3 different smoke testers used by 3 different shops and all say it was sealed perfect. I only use the gasket maker on the charger to intercooler cus i too noticed those metal rings causing a problem. I have used copper spray, mb sealer, and done it dry to see if i had something wrong. I sealed the plug etc etc. Problem would still happen .... now a leak is a leak .... what do i mean by this well. I bought a machined snout from VRP with the plate so that i could try an wk the problem. If you have a leak with the plate an the u take off the plate an put on the stock one and the problem goes away then the problem isnt a leak cus the leak would still be there with a stock one.

So if its not a leak what do you think causes the issue?

I'm just sharing my experience from having done over a dozen of these 82/90 throttle bodies installs. A few came in with a 82mm tb already on with both P0505 and P0106. We found leaks and redid the jobs. None have issues and hiccups. I even guided my friends in SoCal over the phone on doing this. They have no leaks and issues. David over at Eurocharged ATX has had no issues with his 82/90 tb installs either. He's the one that taught me in the beginning way back. I'm not on here to care about your feelings. I'm on here to get results and progress.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, since it's on the pressure side of things... but anyway http://www.needswings.com/needswings...-gaskets-m113k

that is very impressive, since the Turbo S traps ~130mph. What are your mods? I think I also remember you posting a video pulling on a C6Z? How much hp/tq do you think the 90mm TB added?

FBO, I’m still stock heads and stock cams. I don’t know numbers tbh and I won’t guess out of my *** either. I did too many things at once. Once I hit the dyno I’ll post real numbers.

Here’s a run I had with some friends a few weeks back. It was around 90F outside too. Thanks to that desert heat.
Camera car is a stock M157 E63s.
