would you buy a repo'd car?
In my search for an E55 the only viable option i've come up with so far has an unfortunate blemish on it's carfax - it was repo'd back in the spring. obviously if you're not paying your loan there's probably more you're skipping out on but luckily it appears it was only with this owner for about 16 months & 8,000 miles. should i run?
car has KW coilovers and some bleh looking black rims. i wanted something stock but I think i could deal with this at the right price

Are you only looking locally? You might need to do a fly and buy to find the right car.
I would not buy a repo'd car unless it was super cheap.

I'm open to flying somewhere and driving home but still not having a lot of luck. this car is local so i figured it wouldn't hurt to take a peek
what would you consider cheap for a 100k 2005 repo'd e55 with no options but what appears to be clean interior and exterior?

Oh yeh I definitely wouldn’t pay asking but getting it for 8-9k seems like a huge stretch.
I would prefer a car w Arnott airbags but maybe the kw coilovers on this are an even better option...

i was kind of in the same school of thought but am coming around to the idea of considering a car with coilovers. for me buying the car after the conversion, the lower value of the car would be partially offset by the fact that i didnt have to spend $2-3k replacing the airmatic

so far i've really just seen 2 immaculate stock cars.
one '05 with 82k, keyless go, cooled seats but still on the original airmatic and 750 miles from me. seller said he'd go to $15.5 but has stopped responding to emails
one '04 with 105k, no real details other than buyer saying it's amazing. told me flatly $17.5k or nothing

I'd rather deal with replacing leaky struts with Arnotts when the time comes than go to coilovers.

Totally agree. Airmatic is amazing, just costly to maintain (sound familiar... like an AMG?!)

'99 and '05 E55 AMG
Agree with $15K being too high for the mileage and age. FWIW, my car was a repo from the first California owner. Appears he lost it in the crash of 2008, the car was then sold in the Midwest, resided on the East coast for several years, and eventually ended up in Texas in my hands when the owner (an F-16 pilot) was transferring to Germany and couldn't take it with him. So...I would have no issue with a repo so long as I give it one heck of a pre-purchase inspection; my offer would be influenced knowing the previous owner probably deferred maintenance as he/she could not afford it.
FWIW, there was a '05 E55 with 102K miles on it available for $9000 in San Antonio a few months ago.

@bbirdwell thanks for the info. i agree and the repo doesn't scare me that much, it's everything else that's been done to the car.
@strigoi - love the white and maroon ones. i'm all the way in nyc and would like to limit my search to within 1000 miles for now but i know with these being somewhat rare that may need to opened up soon. my search is only about 2 weeks old and i'd like to have the car within 2 months.
here's the car btw: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...mp2&CMP=stemp2

I have nothing against the repo car at all just not a lot of options on the car for the money.
Get all the details and pics you can on whatever you decide to buy.
Barlo red looks nice and it’s a rare color. Maybe more so than the white. (There was a Barlo red listed awhile back with the 2 tone Burgundy and gray seats that looked nice). Wheels have a few curb rashes. Look at the pic of it in the garage it looks like there is a big scratch or crack to the right of the tag. Yes these are minor but have to be considered. Sunroof has been open in pics so that’s a good sign it works. Also had some recent maintenance done. More details on any other maintenance would be a plus also.
The white one looks super nice and clean. Engine compartment super clean most people don’t care about that or take the time to detailbit. Ad has good detail about the car including detailed service that was recently done. Almost like one of the techs bought it and reselling it. All the paper work with it which is nice to have.
Both cars are nice and have a lot of options. If I were searching for one I would buy the white one. I love the rare Barlo color (I’m partial though as I have a Capri blue with the 2 tone seats) as I like to have a car that is a little more rare or odd.
I am the worst procrastinator ever and missed out on a lot of things because of it.......Do do yourself a favor and make a deal on the White one before it’s gone. You will be glad you did. Otherwise you’ll be kicking yourself in the *** later because of being like me.

i'm looking at about $1,300 to ship one across the country. if the pickings remain this slim on the east coast for another couple weeks i may have to open up my search radius
would love for one of these to pop up on BAT

My thoughts with the repo are that if they can't even afford to make payments on a car like that they're most likely not maintaining it well either. Small stuff adds up really quick on these cars. With the stuff that's been done to it, who knows what other kind of ****ery you might not be noticing with it.

Here's a clean silver and black 2003 E55 with 79k miles - asking $12,500.

not bad but i'd strongly prefer something un-modded
this is my ideal car:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Merced...p2047675.l2557
i watched the poor guy list it for 13-14k a few different times then finally drop it to 12.5k and someone nabbed it. at that time i had no idea i'd be moving to an apartment with parking so i missed out
