DIY M156 Intake Spacers?

Hi All!
I'm interested in the intake spacers but just can't see myself dropping that much money on them.
Has anyone attempted a DIY project with material from say Home Depot? If so is there a write up?
I've tried the cutting your old filter and using the rubber piece method but that doesn't seem to hold up too well...
Yes I understand it won't give me a 30 hp gain LOL that's been discussed!

Here's an example I found on eBay:
Mercedes benz cl63 s63 c63 e63 cls63 AMG M156 performance cold air intake spacer
273382486879

Thank you in advance!

Not certain on the exact gains, there's been plenty of debate though...but I was going to run these with some ROW air boxes to see what happens!

With all the combined brain power of the engineers at AMG, don't you think that if this was a benefit, they would have added it to the engine.

While I do get what you're saying Yuille I don't think any car is perfect With all of that brain power over there at AMG you'd think we would never hear of those devastating head bolt issues? I mean we're on a forum one of many talking about performance mods, suspension mods all sorts of mods! LOL! There's always room for improvement or hell some of us just want to do just to do it! I was just curious that's all, again couldn't see myself shelling out that kind of money for those spacers...but appreciate the insight Sir!

Question? What are the purpose of these intake spacers, what does it solve?
Are their any benefits to installing these?
