E55 - oil in the coolant

Hey,

I need your help because I have in my E55AMG (2003) a problem with the presence of oil in the coolant reservoir.
I have checked this oil and it is more like the color from the engine than from the gearbox.

The engine works correctly so I exclude the gasket under the head. If it would damage the main cooler, the oil would be the color of the gearbox.

Someone has an idea where the problem is.

SOLD W203..CURRENTLY DRIVING W211
2003 e55's were known for this problem. Most likely it is the radiator that causes this , check it the link below

You might want to do a pressure test on your cooling system. You could also have your coolant analyzed for the presence of exhaust gasses. Might be a good idea to pull some spark plugs and look for signs of coolant (white deposits, IIRC). I'd not so quickly dismiss head gaskets; a car can run just fine with a HG on its way out. Until it doesn't. Just for kicks, take a sample of your transmission fluid to check for signs of coolant contamination.

This place is a joke.
Most likely it's from the oil cooler seal- the part where your oil filter housing is attached to the block. Replace that seal and flush your cooling system.

Are you sure about this. Because the engine motor m113k doesn`t have an oil cooler attached to the block. The m113k engine has an oil cooler on the right side of the front bumper. What you are writing about applies to the m113 engine (without compressor).

In m113k, the oil filter housing only has lines for the oil cooler and there is no connection to the coolant.

The answer he gave I’d bet is right, very experienced contributor in my opinion.

You’ve earned about a hundred passes for the times you were right and helped members here. My respect is not diminished at all.

2003 e55’s do not have an oil cooler, if its a radiatior problem then consider installing a b&m external transmission cooler like I did to avoid cross contamination

Ya know, I'm embarrassed but you may be correct, I never really paid attention to that area on the M133K, I thought there was some coolant passing through or at least blocked off. I know about the air to oil coolers but find it hard to believe there isn't any coolant to oil coolers. Those seals may be behind the timing cover on the M133k. I'll have to do some research.

Also, old/dirty transmission fluid from the 722.6 can have an appearance of engine oil when it's floating around in the coolant reservoir.

So the problem was the oil cooler, exactly what Alex (LegitStreetCars) is saying.

Thanks for your help.

By oil cooler do you mean engine oil cooler (and not transmission oil)? Thanks.

No.I meant the gearbox oil cooler, which is built into the center of the engine radiator.
