Voltage Regulator/Low Voltage Help
Did some research but couldn't find anything to help me so here goes,
About 2 weeks ago i was driving home and had a battery malfunction light appear on my dash and had shut down a lot of my electronic components but it ran perfectly fine. I heard a pulley sound also. I was about a mile away from home so decided not to pull over. Restarted the car a few times and same thing no fix (forgot to check the voltage) and also smelt like burnt plastic when i opened the hood. Figured my voltage regulator was shot and it was. Got a new voltage regulator from the stealership and I installed last night after having both batteries disconnected for almost 2 weeks. Tried to start the car but no power. Jumped it and had a abs light on and the idle didn't seem right. Turned it off and jumped again and everything seemed fine.
I take it for a drive and not even a block down the abs light turns on, car had shut down all electronics, red message about battery and sbc came on, and voltage was dropping my the seconds. I opened the hood and smelt the burnt plastic again along with a pulley noise.
Jumped the car again and let it run, after 5 minutes started idling weird so i shut it off.
I'm guessing its the alternator that took a ****. Anything special you have to do after installing a new regulator, can the battery die from being disconnected for almost 2 weeks?

This place is a joke.
You don't replace the voltage regulator in a 13-16 year old car, you replace the complete alternator. And make sure your battery is good, or new- and the proper type (AGM) and capacity so you don't ruin the new alternator.

Well if nothing else we pull fuse #6, leave it overnight and see where we are come morning. Then we will at least know that circuit is the problem....
Need to find the wiring diagram, like I know how to read them. Im good on mechanicals, but Im no sparky...
