What radar detector do you use?

I know I rarely ever post but after commenting on another thread about Virginia speeding, I must warn others here as well.
The detector should only be put away if you don’t plan to speed. Take all actions to protect yourself otherwise.
Absolutely use a radar device if you plan on speeding in Va. and per the last line from the quote above, it may be better to take the radar ticket vs possibly ruining your life and going to jail. ( yes on 1day jail, no on ruining my life or losing my license)As a Marylander, I no longer purposely spend money in or visit that backward podunck commonwealth, 15 years later.
And, please before I’m told I was guilty, the judge I was in front of was featured on 20/20 as being the Boss Hog of Southern Virginia. Avoid at all costs or use an undetectable detector (passport) plus shifters/jammers or do not go more than 4 miles over the limit, cause 15 is reckless, jailable, lose your license, over a decade on the record, etc. That’s with driving school, fines and jail, and in case you didn’t hear, jail.

I live in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and I occasionally speed. Back in 2010, I got caught doing 97 in a 55. I was facing a suspended license for a year, $2500 fine and 7 days in jail. Virginia law states that each mile of 90 mph is a day in jail. So 97 mph equal a week in jail. Well, I got myself a lawyer, enrolled in Defensive and Aggressive Driving School, had my speedometer calibrated twice, which confirmed that it was 3 mph off. Anyway, my lawyer talked to the prosecutor and I walked away with only having to pay a $150 fine, $83 court fee and -5 points on my license. Luckily the driving school credits you +5 points, so that even me out. And my insurance never was the wiser of it. Bottom line is that ticket cost me time and money $1250, and I retained my TS Clearance. As jail time would have prejudice it. That is when I purchased a state of the art detector and laser shifter, the Passport 9500ci. And it has saved my butt on numerous occasions and it is undetectable to Local Police and State Troopers.

If I was going to have it installed like my 9500ci, then I would go with the Passport Max CI 360, but if a portable radar is more your preference then either the Unident R7 or the Escort Redline EX which is undetectable or the Escort Max 360C which isn’t a cheap unit, but the most advance that Escort has to offer.

Even though my 9500ci detector is old compared to today's standards, it is still relevant. As my unit was the predecessor of the current unit.
I will admit this detector wasn't cheap, not in the lease. But it was money well spent. And can be updated with the latest defender database.
36 Months of Download Access to our North American DEFENDER® Database, the world's largest speed camera and red light camera database for $49.95.

The ESCORT MAX Ci 360 offers the most advanced digital radar and laser detection system for the complete driver alert. Designed to be seamlessly integrated into the vehicle for a completely discreet install, it features front and rear radar receivers as well as four laser shifters which protect drivers against all speed monitoring devices. Along with complete 360° protection; the ESCORT MAX Ci 360 is 100% undetectable.
The ESCORT Max Ci 360 is packed with features and includes extreme radar detection range and includes our patented In-Vehicle Technology ™ (IVT) filter to eliminate false alarms from other vehicles’ collision systems.

Wow this thread has turned into one big infomercial. That last long paragraph looked like it was straight off Escorts website. Lol.
Big questions is how many times a day is everyone’s Escort brand detectors or any other brands going off all day at all the new vehicles with
crash avoidance/lane assist that are on the roads today?
If anyone says none you’re not being truthful to yourself.
I have a passport 9500ix. Was one of the best I’ve ever had until the last couple of years. I have a friend that just bought another model of passport don’t remember the the number and I’ve seen it go off at multiple vehicles also.
Bad thing is Escort knows the problem is there but last December was blowing up my email with all kinds of promotions to buy another new detector.
AND!!!, the kick in the nuts was the discounts for the 9500ix and other models that constantly gives false alerts at all the new cars on the road.
Just to name a few.
Honda vans and SUVs are the worse. (apparently no one can drive those without assistance) lol.
GMC Enclaves. Cadillac Escalade. Newest Dodge Caravans, and SUVs. OH and I’ve had a Mercedes do it too!
There are waaay more!
How do I know all this. Because I’ve passed these cars with the detector alerting and it stop when I get past them and start again when I’ve slowed and let them by me again.

I also have the 9500IX, and now that I'm aware of this, I will watch this more thoroughly. Thanks for the heads up.

I was also paying for the defender database updates. But the way I see it what’s the point of you can’t trust what the alert is. I still slow down sand look around. But in any kind of town/city driving it’s going off multiple times a day. Highway is good but still the false alerts are there if those vehicles are near.
I live in the outlying towns so a lot of 2 Lane back roads with HP and local SD where it’s needed a lot.

Truth be told, I have the 9500IX in my X5, and my girlfriend uses that as her daily.
I drive my E63, and my commute is 10 miles, so most often I don't even turn on my detector.
But today on my way home I will just to test the theory.

I don't have to worry about the AMG, as it's radar is undetectable but the X5 isn't, so I mainly use it when going out of state.

Cant speak for the other detectors but the Uniden R3 i'm using has filtering for the blind spot/distronic/etc. signals. Its been great so far and no major issues, once you spend a little time learning the detector you'll know how to decipher actual reads from the false ones.
Also, i've been using this in my C43 that has blind spot/lane assist/distronic, no issues.

Doing a bit of research and it seems the best set up, installed runs about three grand.

Yes, I know that these installed systems aren't cheap. I paid like $500 many moons ago to have mine installed, but since I purchased it from them, they gave me a discount on the installation.

I've been paying more attention to see if my Passport 9500ci goes off, due to the newer cars having motion and blind spot detectors.
And I would have to say no, no false alarms. Keep in mind, my system is old as compared to the new installed systems from Escort.
