Folks:

Have owned and enjoyed my '06 E55 AMG Wagon for two years and love it, but after one or two hard acceleration pulls--say from 40 to 90 or so--engine power fades. After a while, full performance returns. What's the most likely cause and simplest remedy?

I live in Colorado's thin air, and this power loss happens more easily in the mountains above 5,000 ft. From what I've read, I suspect the intercooler is not cooling the intake air sufficiently, so somehow--perhaps via a heat sensor--the throttle is being limited. As far as I know the car has the stock pulley and intercooler pump. Although the previous owner told me it had a RennTech Stage 1 kit, he didn't know what that entailed. How can I tell if the system is stock or not?

I have no desire to modify the car--I plan to drive it for the long haul and don't want to risk any big modifications.

Your intercooler water pump has died. Replace it with this:

There are lots of DIY threads showing how to do it on this forum. Make sure to bleed the system when you finish, there are DIY threads for that also.

Yep that is the best option if it has failed. Might need to take a closer look at the heat exchanger you have too.
