You can find C63 mufflers around for $500-700. Going out and buying brand name expensive mufflers/exhausts for the E55 will cost more than that.
I have read they sound great due to their straight-through design vs. the 55's heavily padded/soundproofed design.
Have you tried running resonators in place of the mufflers? may be a slightly cheaper option....
I'm currently figuring out my exhaust setup so have been doing a ton of research...

There hard to find here in New Zealand. I have LTH x pipe and 3” straight through to factory mufflers with cats and res deleted. Exhaust is only mild steel though which I was disappointed as I presumed they would use stainless. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated here is what it sounds like currently

I have the last 2 Fabberge cat back exhausts on eBay now. I bought the last remaining 10 of them and have sold 6 and installed one on my car so that I could make sure they fit and work well. I can say that it is definitely a bolt on (took an hour on 2 post lift) and fits very well. Sound is very good, no drone, and to my surprise the car pulls harder. They are well built and welds are certainly nice.

I saw that on there, couldn't find any good videos of it but I have heard good things. To me just looks like the did 3" straights with flowmaster mufflers...
Are you going for loud as possible? Might as well throw some tuner resonators or standard aftermarket mufflers (like flowmaster, see above) made for v8 and see how you like that. Otherwise $700+ for 63 mufflers or you can risk chinese ebay exhausts that will/may rust off after a year.

I’m running LTH, x pipe, resonator deleted with stock mufflers. Just bought a pair of C63. However, while deleting resonator, I had a chance to start her up with LTH, x pipe and resonator. It sounded good! Should of kept that set up because with resonator deleted is not loud enough for my ears.

You should have a look at MEC Design Apocalypse exhaust, in my opinion sounds brutal yet not brash. This sounds like the Eisenmann Sport but louder.

I contacted them for a quote and they were offering a 20% off. The price was 1450 Euro before discount. I think it's worth it as the other good ones are more expensive. Do factor in the shipping charges from Germany to your country.
Only MEC, Väth and Supersprint make exhausts for the wagon. I'm getting the MEC Apocalypse soon for my wagon.

E63 or CLS63 mufflers sound good as well. you can also modify your stock 55 mufflers. aftermarket mufflers will sound different than AMG mufflers due to their internal chambered design.
If I had a 55, I'd modify my factory mufflers and see how they sound before spending the money on something else.

here's my E63 with LTH, straight pipe, x-pipe, and no resonators. its very loud when i want it to be, but absolutely QUIET at all crusing speeds.

04 E55 thats never seen winter
i have headers xpipe straight pipe stock mufflers i hacked opend and pulled all the packing out, stock e55 is like a 3 chamber design so one chamber still mufflers, i pulled out the big part 2 chamber system, its tame at idle, cruise but once boost hits it sounds like a z06. my 2 cents, cost me zero dollars just skills and a welder. forget thinking your going to make noise without removing the bottleneck in front, i mean you will but trust me my cars sounds out of control even when they were stock, i did the packing delete in the end.

AMG E55, Stage 1, Strait Pipe from Primary Cats
C63 Mufflers are insane with long tubes and xpipe, If you have stock headers just strait pipe from the primary cats with xpipe which is what I run now (no drone and luv it)... The biggest problem with the E55 exhaust IMO is 1. mufflers 2. resonator 3. secondary cats

You can just splice in the round 3" Vibrant oval mufflers and save a ton of money with the incredible sound. Ton of E55`s did this for years but not much posting on that mod these days.
