Need advice/thoughts

Hello all, Long story short....was driving my 08 E63 that I’ve had for 10 months (65k miles) and all the sudden I feel engine get wired and bunch of smoke comes out of the tail pipes. Runs like crap and I slowly drive it to a local shop less than a mile. I get told it was the fuel injector that was stuck open. In a few days they replace the injectors. Start it up and has a bad knock. Phuk! I’d guess a bent rod or whatever. The shop doesn’t tear down engines or rebuild them. Not sure what to do. Find a shop that can rebuild it? I live below Philadelphia, close to Wilmington De. Get a new engine? Or sell it, as is? Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Find a shop to diagnose it first. STAR, compression/leak down test, check oil for debris and boroscope. If you like the car then fix it. Otherwise you stand to lose a decent chunk of change in either case. If it is toast then another engine would be fine, just tear it down to inspect and replace the usual issues before installation.

I definitely love it and want to try and keep the car. I’m calling a few shops tomorrow to see on pricing for new engine. Nobody so far in this area says they’ll rebuild it.

New engine installed

Well I got back my car last Friday with the new engine installed. Engine came from a 09 E63 with approximately 87k miles on it. Had them replace the head bolts and threw in new plugs as well. Great to have the car back and runs like a champ. Here are some pictures of the old head bolts. First 2 were from my old engine with 65k miles. Last one (blurry) was from 09 replacement engine. The one I was holding was worst of the bunch.

From my 08 engine

08 engine bolts

Blurry but this one seemed to be the worst bolt

Cleaned up.

Having the head bolts done, gives you great insurance that you won't have issues in the future, just had mine done a month ago. I'm glad everything worked out for you.

So how much did you pay for a new engine? And where did you find out? How much was it to install?

Why the different wheels on the front and rear? They're close enough appearance wise that it bugs the **** out of me. It's obviously not a tire thing.

Your heads bolt looked exactly like mine when they came out. I had 5 out of 20 that looked bad. Glad I changed them out.

I haven’t added it all up for exact numbers and think it’s for the best for my sanity that I don’t. I paid $5,400 for the 09 engine, which included shipping from Tampa Florida to northern NJ. I used Redline Speed Werks in NJ to replace the engine. All in with car shipping, replacing headbolts, new plugs, new fuel injectors and other stuff it was about $7 or $8k. In hindsight I should’ve just had them replace the engine but before I ordered the replacement I had them breakdown my old one to see if it was salvageable but it wasn’t. So that cost me some extra.

Yeah...that kinda bugs me too. Had the car little over a year and not sure what I’ll do. I took one of my rear wheels to get fixed and the guy said it was redone at some point. Obviously not the best. Any ideas would be welcome.

Not sure exactly because had them put in new plugs and fuel injectors along with the updated bolts. My last bill from them was $2,800 and before that they charged me $1,800 for parts. So around $4,600
