Odd electrical problem 2004 E55 W211

I haven't been able to find a solution to this problem despite searching. I see a post describing COMMAND audio shutting off, but mine is different.

On my car, randomly perhaps every 5-10 minutes, the COMMAND screen will reboot. Of course the audio will cutout during reboot. Additionally, the HVAC panel will go dark and shut off. Within 30 seconds, everything including COMMAND and HVAC will boot back up. Then the Parktronic LEDs will flash and chime once. I will also get an SOS error. The error messages all extinguish and the car behaves normally until the next cycle. I have no other alerts or check engine lights.

I have fresh main and auxiliary batteries. There is no history of water incursion or damage. No accidents.

Anyone ever seen this?

Thanks

Could be the Central Gateway Unit. Have it checked, all these symptoms are of a failing unit. I had the same issue as yours and replaced the Central Gateway Unit. It has to be installed and coded so get it done with a Mercedes Specialist.

Thanks for the lead. It sounds like it will be a diagnostic challenge. Is there anything other than the CGW? Where is the module located exactly? I could try Stabilant on the connector first prior to swapping parts, which sounds like it's a dealer-only item due to the coding required.

See page 15 for CGW location under the steering column.

Do you drive around with anything plugged in the OBD2 port??? If you do try unplugging it before startup and go for a drive.
