2007 E63 AMG Rear Suspension Sagging
#26
Defintly a leak some where. My fronts started doing that about 6 months ago so I had them replaced with OEM cuz they were cheaper than Arnott at the time. The rears started about a week ago, so I just had them replaced but with Arnotts as my tech says the subframe doesn't have to be dropped with Arnotts vs OEM.
If this car is your daily driver I would replace ASAP. At some point they will start whistling and the car will be barely drive-able.

You need to diagnose what's leaking. Could be several things, such as lines and valve block. You can buy parts from fcpeuro.com. The best thing would of course be to replace front struts and rear bags due to age.
I think the other guys exaggerat how quickly this needs to be done because no one knows when or if you airmatic system fails and the worst thing that happen is that you will need a tow as long as nothing else brakes. Find the leak and Save up to do a full replacement. You should also replace the relay for the airmatic pump.

I have attached some pictures of my 2007 E63 after sitting in my cold garage for 10 days. There is almost no sagging of the air suspension at all. If your rear end is sagging as pictured above, keep in mind that your compressor is working HARD every time you start the car - that means you are wearing it down. Yes I am sure because I have replaced the compressor TWICE and the front air struts due to their"sagging" issue. My rear air springs are the original 13 year-old parts. People often talk about the air lines and the distribution block being a point of leaks, but they very rarely are; I would wager that 95% of the time it is an air shock/strut.

My 07 e63 does the same. Rear suspensions leak air over time equally from both sides. Loses almost completely in a week in cold weather and I live in Calgary lol. I am away for almost a month now. If my rear suspensions are sitting very low with almost no air, does it damage the suspension? I am trying to get my friend to get hold of keys and fire it up once a week.
Also did anybody have exact same issue and got it fixed? If so, what was the cause and how much did it cost to fix?

Hi,
i made the OP on Dec 2019, and today is March end 2023, rear end is still acting up, sags in 2-3 days, BUT some times , it holds air and stays level for 2-3 weeks or untill i drive again. which tells me that bags are not bad, but no one has able to give me a definitive reasoning behind this. just scroll up, in this thread alone there are 2-3 different theories. hence, i have not changed the rear suspension yet.
My front Left bag blew in the meantime 2 years go, so got the front end replaced by BIlisteen Air Sus. Car is going pretty sold otherwise, off course regular service is a given in these cars. hops this helps.

Gentlemen,
The fundamental issue is this, both the Front Air Struts and Rear Air Springs have rubber in their construction. As this rubber ages, tiny cracks form in the rubber, where air passes thru, thereby causing your sagging issue.
Also, other components of the air system age as well, such as the air compressor and valve distribution block. in most cases, all of these components will eventually need to be replaced.
I have replaced every components on my 16 yrs old E63. Now, keep in mind even after replacing everything you will still encounter some settling but not sagging. Even with a system under constant pressure, air will find a way to escape eventually.

But, you do not need to drop the rear subframe to install the rear air springs. I know for a fact that my shop didn't when mine were installed.

How else can you get the attached air reservoirs out of the car without dropping the subframe? I swapped to Arnott and just left them in, but if I went OEM I could not see a way to remove them.

We also left the OEM reservoirs in, and just cut the hose off. But you are absolutely right, the rear subframe must come down to remove the reservoirs, as you can’t get access to the mounting bolts that hold the reservoirs in place.

I have Ml 350 2012...if I park at home, my rear sits down over night.....well If I leave trunk door open, it wont go down at all...so I quess, ist not leak but It has to do something with airmatic system.
Does anybody expriences the same thing-leaving door open to finfd out if it has leak?? If it was leaking somewhere, it would leak all the time, not only if all doors are closed...

I'm trying to understand the link between leaving the trunk door open/closed, that leads to your sagging rear suspension.
Obviously, there is a leak somewhere and I would say it's your rear air springs. As they age the rubber develops small crack that allow the air to escape.
Replace these and your sagging issue should be remedied.
