Supercharger pulley falling apart. Upgrade time?
Hey guys, heard a little bit of clacking under the hood so I removed the plastic cover over the supercharger pulley and found that the bearing is falling apart. Looks like the C clip is completely gone and a few ball bearings are missing. I could replace just the bearing, or I could upgrade the pulley while Im at it since I want to do that anyways. I already have a PLM heat exchanger and a bosch 010 pump. The car is my daily driver. I am thinking of doing a clutched 77mm pulley, longtube headers and an ECU tune. The vendor I am currently working with is telling me I will also need a belt wrap kit, and a TCU tune. Is all of this necessary? Any reason to go with a different sized pulley?
Thanks!

Well you don't need a BWK or a TCU tune. BWK is never a bad idea. Do some research on pulley size. The 77 is good for power but will make more heat. I like my 84mm clutched. I don't really go to the track and I will street race a few times a year. I have had the pulley for 4 years.

Smaller the pulley - more spin - more heat, depending on where you live and whats your outside temps you wanna make sure you have cooling to back up smaller pulley. Otherwise no fun if your nice 77mm doesnt engage due to heatsoak. My first mod was longtube headers, before getting ECU & TCU tuned by Eurocharged Orlando I felt that since the car was breathing so much easier the tranny would hold the hear for too long and delay on gear change so maybe that's why they told you that you need a TCU tune. Do you have split cooling done ? Do you have a underhood or trunk tank ?

If you are planning on going the long tube header route, I'll be the oddball and say go to the 83mm pulley with tune. I feel that the 77mm is going to add quite a bit more heat which means you'll eventually go to a bigger tank and split cooling. I've recently done 83mm pulley, long tubes, and 82mm throttle body and made pretty good power without too much heat: https://mbworld.org/forums/w219/7351...-new-post.html

I have the 84mm with Eurocharged tune and long tubes. my though was the 84 would be a little more heat friendly but I'm also at sea level and summers here are 90+ and very humid. Runs strong and consistent in the summer time.
