STAR Computer Diagnostics

I am needing to get trouble shooting done on my car. Mercedes said it will be $200-300 to do it. I thought well maybe I should just buy the computer myself. I’m not sure what it is or how to get it. I googled it and was recommended to look at these.

Those seem like just regular code scanners. I need to find out what shorts I have for my heated seats, brakes, etc. What are you guys using?

Thanks again guys!

Hello, I use the icarsoft Mercedes diagnostic tool and it works well and communicates with all the Mercedes specific computer modules on the car. For instance on my 06 R500 with 722.9 transmission the fluid level is read and determined at a specific fluid temperature and I used this tool to do just that. It certainly does not have the programming capability like the STAR/DAS system but it reads codes clears codes and you can view all the live readings from each module in your car. I have used it on my CLS55 and R500 without a problem.

Second the iCarsoft, it can READ every module in these cars and provide live data, and is so easy and less clunky to use than STAR.

That said, I still ended up buying a STAR because I need to bleed my brakes and that just can't be done properly without it. Or when my air struts eventually fail etc.

If you plan on having the car a long time, maybe get the full kit, but for general diagnostic work I always go for the carsoft first (and it fits perfectly in the drivers door panel!)

I use the Autel MaxiDAS 808 and not only reads everything live you can program as well. I reset my airmatic height with it like Star does. Plus I can use it on every make and model of any car (to help justify the cost in my head haha).

Can this Autel interface with the SBC brake system to do brake fluid bleeding? Thank in advance!
